Real Rider Reviews
What Riders Are Saying
Hands down one of the best things I've done in Bali. Riding across the black lava fields with the crater lake in the background — completely surreal. Our guide was brilliant, read the group perfectly and kept the pace exciting without being reckless. Already planning to come back.
I'd never been on a dirt bike before and nearly chickened out the night before. So glad I didn't. The team was incredibly patient — spent real time getting me comfortable before we even left the basecamp. The trail itself was gorgeous: jungle, then suddenly you're riding on a black sand beach. Totally unexpected.
As an experienced rider I was worried it might be too tame — it absolutely wasn't. The jungle singletrack in Tabanan is proper off-road and our guide found exactly the technical lines I was looking for. The lunch stop mid-ride was a highlight too, really good local food. Highly recommended for experienced riders.
Perfect introduction to dirt biking. The guide was super clear with instructions and never made me feel silly for being a beginner. We went at a comfortable pace but I still felt like I was actually riding, not just being babysat. The golden hour light through the plantation was something else.
Third time doing a dirt bike tour in Asia and this was the best organised by a long way. Pickup from our hotel in Canggu was on time, bikes were clearly well-maintained, and the guide gave us exactly the right amount of challenge. The lava fields near Kintamani are really spectacular.
Came with four friends and we all had an absolute blast. The guides managed our mixed-ability group really well — nobody felt left behind and nobody was bored. All the gear they provide is proper quality. The photo stops they chose were incredible.
Full day in the jungle and it delivered on every level. Beach start, deep singletrack, river crossings, and a proper sit-down lunch. The guides sorted everything without any drama. One of the highlights of our whole Bali trip.
The volcanic landscape is unlike anything I've ridden through — strange, beautiful, a bit alien. I'm an intermediate rider and the guide found the perfect balance: challenging enough to improve my skills, never scary. The descent toward the caldera lake was a highlight.
Booked literally the night before and they sorted everything, no problem. Showed up, got kitted out and we were off within 20 minutes. The guide knew exactly how to push you without tipping you over the edge. The river crossing section near the end nearly got me — in the best possible way.
Before You Come
What Riding a Dirt Bike in Bali Is Actually Like
Most people book a dirt bike tour in Bali without ever having ridden off-road. Here is an honest picture of what the day involves, so you arrive knowing what you signed up for.
The terrain changes every twenty minutes
Bali is not one kind of riding. In Tabanan you start on hard-packed black sand at the coast, climb into jungle singletrack narrow enough to clip your handguards on bamboo, splash through two or three river crossings, and finish on plantation tracks between rice terraces. In Kintamani the ground is loose volcanic gravel on the flanks of Mount Batur, with lava fields that look like another planet and a caldera rim that drops away beside you. Riders who have only ridden in one country are usually surprised by how much the surface changes inside a single tour.
You do not need experience — you need honesty about your level
Roughly two out of three riders who come to us have never sat on a dirt bike. That is fine. Everyone starts with a practice session at basecamp: clutch, throttle, standing position, braking on loose ground. What causes problems is not inexperience, it is riders who overstate what they can do and end up on a KTM 300 they cannot control. Tell us the truth when you book and you will have a far better day.
It is more physical than it looks
A halfday tour is three to four hours with breaks, and you will spend a good part of it standing on the pegs in tropical heat. Most first-timers find their forearms and thighs are the first things to complain. You do not need to be an athlete, but if you are not used to physical activity, book the halfday rather than the fullday and see how you feel. Nobody enjoys hour six of a ride they were not ready for.
Rain changes the ride, it does not cancel it
Bali's wet season runs roughly November to March, and the trails stay open through it. Wet jungle clay is genuinely slippery and river crossings run higher, so the guide will adjust the route and the pace. Plenty of experienced riders deliberately come in the wet because the riding is more technical and the jungle is at its most dramatic. Dry season, May to September, is the easier introduction if it is your first time.
You will drop the bike, and that is accounted for
Almost everyone goes down at some point — usually at low speed in soft ground, usually because of a stall on a climb. That is why every rider wears a chest protector, knee pads and boots, and why bike damage is covered rather than billed back to you. The guide picks the bike up, checks you are fine, and the group carries on.
Common Questions
Before You Book
Do I need riding experience to join a tour?
No experience needed for most tours. The Halfday Tabanan and Sunset Enduro Tour are both suitable for complete beginners — your guide will coach you at the basecamp before you ride. The Kintamani Black Lava Tour and Fullday Tabanan suit riders with some prior off-road experience.
Which tour should I pick?
Half day, beginner or time-limited? → Halfday Tabanan Jungle & Beach (3–4 hrs, all levels).
Afternoon departure & scenic? → Tabanan Sunset Enduro Tour (3–4 hrs, all levels).
Full day, mixed terrain? → Fullday Tabanan Jungle & Beach (6–7 hrs, intermediate).
Volcanic & dramatic? → Kintamani Black Lava Tour (6–7 hrs, intermediate+).
What's included in the tour price?
All tours include: fuel, full safety riding gear (helmet, chest protector, gloves, boots), a professional guide, mineral water, and hotel pickup & drop-off — minimum 2 riders. A warung lunch is included on the fullday and Kintamani tours; the halfday and sunset rides do not include lunch. Bike insurance is included for KLX 150cc and KLX 230cc. Solo riders (1 person) are welcome but transport is not included; you ride to the basecamp yourself, or we can arrange pickup for an additional Rp 500k.
What bikes do you ride?
We run five bikes matched to rider level: KLX 150 (beginner), KLX 230 (intermediate), Yamaha YZ 250 2-stroke (intermediate+), KTM 300 EXC TPI 2-stroke (advanced), and KTM 350 EXC-F 4-stroke (advanced). Your guide will recommend the right bike based on your height, weight, and riding experience.
How big are the groups?
We keep groups small — maximum 10 riders per tour. Most rides run with 2–6 people so your guide can give everyone proper attention on the trail.
What should I wear or bring?
We provide all riding gear, so just wear comfortable sports clothing you don't mind getting dirty, and closed-toe shoes. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, and a small amount of cash for personal purchases. A change of clothes for after the ride is a good idea on the full-day tours.
